What does the deck include?

Who is it for?

Parents teaching first English reading and spelling at home, including bilingual families abroad, or following school teaching. Broadly ages 4–7; readiness matters more than age. An adult runs each session.

Does my child need to read already?

No. The deck starts with first letter sounds: s, a, t and p. An adult introduces each sound, then uses the cards for practice. Move on to words when your child knows their sounds and you have shown how to blend them.

Do we need Phase 1 first?

You do not need to buy a separate Phase 1 deck. In Letters and Sounds (2007), Phase 1 covers listening, rhyme and oral sound play; Phase 2 introduces printed letters and their sounds. Children do not have to master every Phase 1 skill before starting Phase 2. Keep listening and oral blending games going alongside letter work, and follow your child’s readiness.

Do I need Anki already?

You need an Anki app to import the .apkg download. The parent guide explains setup. This purchase is the deck, not an app subscription. The deck appears in Anki as Sound Road.

Does it match every school programme?

No. It follows the 2007 Letters and Sounds Phase 2–3 sequence, with ure omitted, plus 30 tagged extension words. Check against your school’s order and choose taught content.

Is it a complete learn-to-read course?

No. An adult introduces sounds and blending, and chooses suitable practice. Pair the cards with matched decodable books, conversation and shared stories. There is no school-programme or DfE endorsement.

Are the recordings human voices?

Yes. Simon, a parent and native English speaker from England, recorded the sounds and words in his own broadly non-rhotic accent. The sample uses those recordings.

Which apps have been tested?

Fresh imports, updates and card rendering were tested with the Anki 26.8.1 backend. Physical-phone checks are still pending; AnkiMobile on iPhone and iPad has not been verified. Any paid Anki app is separate.
