How the words were chosen: the 1,000 most frequent words in spoken German, ranked by lemma frequency in Matthias Buchmeier's German subtitle frequency list (about 25 million words of film and TV subtitles; Wiktionary, CC BY-SA). Forms are grouped under their dictionary word (ist, war and sind all count as sein); names, interjections, letters, swear words and English loanwords are left out, and separable verbs appear as one headword. Cards follow that order, most frequent first.

Audio: eight ElevenLabs AI voices (four female, four male), each cloned from a native speaker from Germany, alternating by card. AI-generated, not human recordings.

Sentences: example sentences are AI-written, each reviewed by a second AI model and checked by hand.

The samples above show the prompt and German answer. Listen to the audio and check the sentence style before choosing.

★★★★★

“Excellent resource! The decks are high quality and saved me a lot of study time. Highly recommended for anyone using Anki.”

★★★★★

“The method utilizes multiple senses modalities for learning, e.g. reading, hearing a native speaker at natural rate and inflection, and speaking (very much like professional language school). The repetition is important and makes implementation of what was learned seem natural.”

Robert Edelstein, US · May 2026 · verified on Trustpilot
